SOUND HEALING: Listening Is a Choice
SOUND HEALING: Listening Is a Choice

By Carrie Bergener and Subject Matter Expert Ananda

Hearing is an automatic, complex physical function shared by our ears and our brain. But listening is an active choice. Listening is when we interpret and assign meaning to sounds, and our bodies react.

Let Your Body Know That It Is Okay to Be Still and Rest

Sound Healing is an ancient therapy that uses singing bowls, gongs, and other instruments to support and enhance deep relaxation. These tools all produce specific frequencies that calm the mind and activate our parasympathetic nervous system, which slows the heart and respiratory rate.

Combining and interchanging the tools and their vibrational effects with intentional listening allows us to apply meaning to this ageless practice. With this understanding of Sound Healing and its effects on the body and wellness, it becomes logical and achievable.

Meet the Practitioner

Ananda, an effervescent spirit who embodies genuine kindness, practices Sound Healing at Taspen’s. She already worked with tuning forks and added gong baths after her Kundalini yoga training. Ananda explains that she experienced many profound practices and healings through the gong bath and developed a deep connection with playing it. The gong bath was added to her Sound Healing sessions, along with multiple healing sound tools.

Ananda explains that Sound Healing is like other practices that tap into frequency and vibration, but it resides in our soul’s space, where energy healing can take place. She meets clients where they are and interprets their intentions for Sound Healing by letting the musical instruments be heard and their music unfold to meet their needs.

What Distinguishes Sound Healing from Other Energy Practices

The music of Sound Healing taps into a frequency and vibration of unlimited potential. Ananda explains it can be harmonious, activating, or disjointed, just as our preferences are in listening to music. But we know certain types of music (classical, binaural beats) calm the body and mind, and it is in this state that we can connect with memory, intuition, and subconscious thought.

Music is sound—the movement of energy that is distinguished, with intentional hearing, to allow us a connection and response with the world around us. Thus, this attunement creates a healing energy that, for many, is very powerful.

The Location of Sound Healing

Sound Healing can take place in group or individual settings. It is considered a sacred space that supports us to fully drop into the sound journey. At Taspen’s, both settings are offered: individual sessions in a quiet private room or group classes in the Dragon Fly Studio. Both spaces carry an atmosphere of welcoming safety and serenity.

Ananda leads each group setting in a manner that ensures each participant feels completely loved and supported. In private settings, there is no engagement of touch, sight, or interaction, so each individual may be completely aware of just themselves.

The Session Structure and Intention

Sessions are simply structured, with the beginning always focused on setting the intention based on the recipient’s desires. Each session then flows organically, with sounds ranging from soothing crystal bowls, drums, bells, and/or high-pitched tuning forks. It is an intuitive dance of sound, listening, and allowing oneself to release, energize, and heal.

Ananda never minimizes anyone’s intention and recognizes their desire for meaning and resolve. Nor does she speculate on the outcome. Sound Healing is a powerful tool and experience for personal alignment at any stage of life.

After Sound Healing

Ananda recommends journaling following a Sound Healing session. This not only settles the experience but also brings the session to the forefront of thought, allowing each person to bring mind, body, and heart to the healing process.

Keeping an intimate presence with oneself in nature or quiet time at home is an ideal way to follow up after Sound Healing. Continued access to healing via healing hertz, binaural beats, or your favorite music is an easy and helpful practice for ongoing Sound Healing.

At Taspen’s Healing Center, Sound Healing with Ananda is part of the offered programs or private sessions and can be accessed from the website or by calling.

Namaste.
