Pranic Healing: The Prana and Pranayama
A trusting glance at life force, breath and a Healer.

To truly comprehend Pranic Healing would take an in-depth examination into its origins and a study of the techniques. It would be an exhaustive undertaking of time and vitality. Instead, we rely on a basic human instinct. Trust – a belief in goodness and truth and reliance on the skill of another. This glimpse into the ancient practice gives one information to understand the concept and meet a practitioner of Pranic Healing.
Laura Funk, Pranic Healer is a native of Colorado. And even better a local-local – she was raised in Evergreen. She “stumbled across Taspen’s shopping and exploring one day and found it to be a complete gem full of healthy, healing products and a wonderful heartfelt community”. Laura has now been associated with Taspen’s for four years and is currently the store manager at the Conifer location.
An interview with Laura is like sitting down with an old friend. It is from her gentle soul, happy spirit and enthusiasm for “all things energy” that we learn about Pranic Healing. She first became aware of the practice while visiting with like-minded people and found it fascinating. Laura says, “it just felt right for me to learn more, so I did.” That knowledge begins with a Level One Pranic Healing Course; a group intensive course of reading, meditating and practicing. Two more levels of courses and other supportive courses compliment Pranic Healing training. The healing sessions are highly dependent on the situation and a person’s energy. One session can result in significant improvement. However, “energy is always moving and changing” so some folks opt for more time with Laura or regular check-ins. When asked about her favorite part of Pranic Healing, Laura is quick to say that is when people report feeling “lighter and more like themselves”. The love of her practice shines through from her remark, “To me that is such a beautiful comment, because it is so pure and innocent, that feeling that you are whole. I just love it!”
Pranic, or Prana is a Sanskrit word referring life force. Sanskrit, one of the oldest human languages describes this in yogic terms as the life energy and closely related to pranayama, the breath. This ancient healing is based on the concept that the human body can heal itself, and by “cleansing and energizing the Pranic Energy Field” healing can be drastically accelerated. “Basically, Pranic Healing is Energy Healing, allowing stagnant or stuck energy to move freely during the cleansing and energizing process, all through a no-touch healing system.” Master Choa Kok Sui (1952 -2007) is credited with introducing Pranic Healing to the West and making it accessible to people of all backgrounds. A Filipino Chinese Spiritual Teacher and a Chemical Engineer, Choa Kok Sui wrote "Miracles Through Pranic Healing" in 1987 and traveled the U.S., Australia and Europe teaching the methods.
Pranic Healing is now recognized worldwide as a complementary medical adjunct and is incorporated into physical and psychological treatment plans. Having a practitioner of Pranic Healing at Taspen’s Healing Center evokes more interest into the practice and the possibilities for understanding and partaking in this medical therapy.
